So, when NRM’s unique refrigeration solution entered their purview, they did their research into the performance and efficiency measures offered, and came away excited to discover if their business qualified for Mass Save incentives to help pay for the solution to be installed.
The process couldn’t have been easier: Scott, the restaurant’s owner, reached out to NRM and scheduled a no-cost assessment of his four walk-in coolers. An NRM Advisor went on site, took the necessary info about their refrigeration’s operating conditions, then delivered that info to the NRM engineers who calculated estimated energy savings and enhancements for the project.
From there, NRM submitted the project scope to Clyde’s utility sponsor of the Mass Save program, who approved the project, and Clyde’s received generous incentives that covered over 80% of the upfront installation costs of the efficiency measures.
Clyde’s qualified for sponsored refrigeration upgrades that included smart system controls that improved runtimes by adapting the cooling cycles to a need-based schedule, high-efficiency evaporator fan motor upgrades, anti-sweat door heater controls, and an improved defrost process. All told, the estimated energy savings were over 12,000 kWh and over $2,000 in actual electric bill costs in the first year compared to not doing the project.
In 5 years, that’s estimated to be around $10,000 that remains profit, that otherwise would have gone into their energy costs!
