Because simply put, most walk-in coolers are managed by staff in a “set it and forget it” manner, and who can blame someone for that? Well, in most cases—and especially where the walk-in cooler is 15, 20 years old—many components of the refrigeration system are running excessively, when the system can hit and maintain safe temperatures much more efficiently through proven optimizations.
For Wollaston Wine & Spirits, that included NRM’s intelligent controller to reduce evaporator fan runtimes as well as anti-sweat door heater runtimes, evaporator fan motor upgrades to more efficient EC models, open product case motor upgrades, open product case LED lighting upgrades, and lastly open case covers.
Combined, these measures reduce their commercial electric usage by over 30,000 kWh, and their bill by around $4,000 every year now compared to how their refrigeration operated before.
