Dash Inn has slashed their electric bill by roughly $2,100 per year. By year 10 of having NRM's solution, they'll have recouped over $20,000 in profits that otherwise would've been spent on energy use.
Like we are known for around New England, NRM participates in utility-sponsored energy efficiency incentive programs all over the country including Tulsa, Oklahoma. One of the business owners there who saw an opportunity too good to pass up was Asif and the Dash Inn.
For Asif, that opportunity was a full retrofit optimization of his commercial refrigeration systems, from his walk-in cooler to his cold-beverage novelty coolers. The walk-in is now be managed by a smart control system that calls for cooling ONLY when you actually need it, old inefficient evaporator fan motors were replaced with newer components, the anti-sweat door heaters were incorporated into the smart controls, and all of Asif’s reach-in novelty coolers are now scheduled to run based on business hours.
To top it off, NRM was also able to upgrade the in-cooler lighting at the Dash Inn from traditional bulbs to high-efficient LEDs.
All of these measures together qualified for a generous incentive from Asif’s utility provider. In many cases, power companies simply aren’t in a position to build more power plants, so there are times they need to “buy back” some kWh to divert to where it’s necessary.
Sometimes, this means they’ll offer to cover anywhere from 60-80% of an energy efficiency project for a small business.
This resulted in an upfront cost for Asif that would be paid back within 18 months from the healthy energy savings.
